This is the second in our series of posts about the best brunches in Victoria. Normally, I leave these posts 100% up to our Victoria correspondent, Chantal, but I was recently in Victoria, and so of course we had to have brunch! We chose The Village, and we were not disappointed. Read on!
The Village on Estevan is the flagship of what’s soon to be three locations to get some of Victoria’s best brunch options. It’s a small bright space with tables, an eating bar facing the windows, and a sidewalk patio. The underground kitchen is reminiscent of New York City, and the staff and food are a welcome sight for your pre-caffeinated eyes.
Known for their local food commitment and latkes, these thin shredded potato patties are the base for their bennies. I love the Bennicio del Toro. Poached eggs on latkes, with pico de gallo salsa, feta, and avocado. You’ll find omelettes, bennies, granola, hash, and tons of great breakfast all day options, along with sandwiches, burgers, soups and more. The Village locations all have fresh sheets, local ingredients, and a local beer and wine list. Espresso drinks and drip brewed coffee by local roaster Oughtred Coffee.
Royal Oak is a larger space, bright and sunny as well. Reservations accepted, both locations open daily 8 – 3, check twitter for occasional changes. Gluten-free and vegetarian diners will be happy here. Expect a worthwhile line on the weekends. Check Twitter for wait times.
